Hymamshu Montessori House of Children

Hymamshu Jyothi Kala Peetha, Malleshwaram, was founded in 1942 as Hymamshu Shishu Vihar in memory of "Hymamshu", the son of Sri M. L. Sreenivasa Shastry and Smt. M. S. Sundaramma. The void created by his being snatched away at the tender age of 3 plunged the Shastrys into sorrow. Persuasion from eminent educationists such as Dr. M. V. Gopalaswamy of University of Mysore, B. Sundareswara of National Education Society, H. Yoganarasimha of the Department of Public Instruction, Smt. Saraswathamma, Smt. Kalyanamma and many more, inspired the Shastrys to start a kindergarten to serve the cause of child education.

The school's Montessori wing was started by Sri S R Swamy, deputed to be trained by Dr. Maria Montessori who was conducting a training course organized by the Association Montessori International at Kodaikanal during 1942. Gradually, a full-fledged Montessori House of Children came into existence from 1967.

Smt. Chithra A Rao, the school's Managing Director was the first student of Hymamshu Shishu Vihar. Educationist Dr. B. V. A. Rao, President of the Governing Council and Member of the Hymamshu Educational Trust, is also Chairman of the Indian Montessori Centre.
